Porsche 959
Porsche 959
The Porsche 959 was a game-changer when it first debuted in 1986. The 959 was an automobile brimming with groundbreaking technology that revolutionized the established norms – encompassing active suspension and a sequential twin turbocharged engine. It was a vehicle capable of reaching a maximum speed of nearly 320km/h, all the way back in 1986.
Since then, it has become an enigmatic legend in the car world—so rare that once found, the Porsche 959s are tucked away into the state-of-the-art garages of car enthusiasts and or on display as museum showpieces.
Fun Fact: After the enactment of the "Imported Vehicle Safety Compliance Act" in 1988, the 959 was unable to meet the requirements for street legality in the United States. However, influential figures such as Otis Chandler, Bill Gates, Bruce Canepa, and others successfully persuaded the US government to permit the importation of the 959. This led to the establishment of the Show or Display Law in 1999, which allows the importation of cars that didn't meet federalization standards but hold significant importance in car culture.
